Benjamin Studebaker is an American who teaches politics at the University of Cambridge. We’ve followed his blog since his epic piece on how Bernie Sanders might have won the 2016 Presidential election, published about 3 years ago. We often disagree with his point of view, but his remarks are usually well-researched and worth thinking about.
His article in “Current Affairs” on the debate between Jordan Peterson and Slavoj Zizek is exceptional. He discusses Marxism with a great deal of insight. He points out where both participants were mistaken and offers better ways of thinking about these issues. Most of Studebaker’s essays support a more liberal version of politics and economics. In this one, he has a lot of good things to say about Marxism. It’s long, but worth reading.
By the way, we aren’t fans of Zizek or celebrity Marxists in general. Michael Parenti is an exception; we highly recommend his work.
